Congratulations to Margaret Nana, Kitchen Assistant at Tupwood Gate Nursing Home, who was a finalistin the "Ancillary Worker of the Year" award in the Surrey Care Awards 2010. The winners and finalists were announced at a gala event held at Epsom Downs Racecourse on Friday 19 November which was attended by over 350 local care practitioners with guest presenters Anthea Turner and Richard Stilgoe.
Organised by Surrey Care Association, the Surrey Care Awards are the county's 'Oscars' for local care workers. The Awards recognise the hard work and dedication of people working in a wide variety of jobs in adult social care.
Margaret Nana, who started working at Tupwood Gate in October 2005, was nominated by Carole Stanley, the home's Catering & Housekeeping Manager, because of her kindness, dedication, adaptability and positive attitude towards her job. In bad weather Margaret has walked the ten miles to work and back, even staying over to allow others to go home to their families.
She is versatile and willing to help out colleagues to cover for absence and holidays. She is always smiling and jokes that even if she broke her leg she would still get in to work as she's got the other one! As Carole said in her citation to the Awards panel: "Her commitment is second to none ... She is our jewel in the crown."
